The CPA you call when the
number matters.

Whetzel CPA is a one-principal Houston firm built around a simple idea: a real estate investor and small business owner should be able to talk to the CPA filing their return — not an associate, not a portal, not a chatbot.

Tim founded Whetzel CPA after years of being on the other side of the table — buying rental properties, running a small business, and watching tax season turn into a fire drill every April. He wanted the kind of firm he would have hired himself: a single CPA who knows the books year round, returns calls the same day, and quotes a flat fee before anything starts.

That bias toward direct, principal-level work shapes everything. Engagements are scoped tightly. Files don’t get handed down a chain. When a client emails on a Tuesday afternoon, the person who reads it is the same person who will sign the return.

“Your finances deserve full-time attention. Not a busy-season scramble.”

What I work on

Real estate is the throughline — 1031 exchanges, cost segregation, depreciation strategy, multi-entity rental structures, partnership returns for syndications. Around that sits a deliberate roster of Houston operators: small business S-Corps, fractional CFO engagements for growth-stage firms, and the individual and trust returns those owners and their families need.

How I work

Flat fee, scoped up front. Engagement letter before any work starts. Year-round access on a number I answer. Tax planning happens in Q3, not patched together in April. If your books need cleanup, we cleanup. If your structure isn’t serving you, we fix the structure.

Our approach

Four habits the firm won’t break.

Most firms scale by adding people between you and the work. We scale by saying no to engagements that don’t fit, so the ones we accept get full attention from the person whose name is on the door.

01Flat fees, never hourly
02Direct line to the principal
03Quarterly planning, not April reaction
04Engagement letter before any work

If your CPA doesn’t pick up
the phone, we should talk.

Thirty minutes. No portal, no intake form. You’ll hang up with a clear read on your tax position and a flat-fee quote if you want one.
