Whetzel CPA (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates whetzelco.com. This policy explains what information this website collects, why, and what we do with it. It covers the website only. If you are a client, the separate privacy notice we provide under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act governs how we handle your tax and financial information — that notice is more specific, and it controls where the two overlap.
What we collect
Information you give us
When you submit the contact form, we receive your first and last name, email address, phone number if you provide one, the topic you select, and your message. When you book a consultation through our scheduling tool, you provide your name, email, and the time you select. When you use the live chat, we receive whatever you type into it.
We ask for this so we can respond to you. Nothing more.
Information collected automatically
Our web host and content delivery network record standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps — as part of delivering and securing the site. These logs are retained by those providers under their own schedules.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — which pages people visit, how they arrived, and whether they submitted the contact form, booked a consultation, or tapped the phone number. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects a truncated IP address, device and browser type, and pages viewed. We use it to see what is working on the site. We do not use it to identify individual visitors, and we have not enabled advertising or remarketing features.
You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or by using your browser’s Do Not Track or cookie-blocking settings.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or tax documents through this website. Please do not send them through the contact form or live chat. If you are a client and need to send documents, we will provide you with a secure portal.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site sets a small number of cookies. Our content delivery network sets a security cookie to distinguish visitors from automated traffic. Google Analytics sets cookies to recognise a returning visit and work out how the site is used. Our scheduling tool and live chat each set cookies when you interact with them, so the tool remembers your session. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though the scheduling and chat features may not.
Third parties who process data on our behalf
- WP Engine — website hosting
- Cloudflare — content delivery and security
- Calendly — consultation scheduling
- Tidio — live chat
- Google Analytics — site usage measurement
- Microsoft 365 — the email account that receives contact form submissions
Each of these processes information under its own privacy policy. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
How long we keep things
Contact form submissions arrive as email and are retained in our mail system under our normal business records policy. Scheduling records are retained by Calendly under your account settings there. Server logs are retained by our host and CDN under their schedules.
How we protect it
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the email account that receives form submissions is protected by multi-factor authentication. As a CPA firm we are also subject to the FTC Safeguards Rule and maintain a written information security program covering client data.
Your choices
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email tim@whetzelco.com and we will respond within 30 days. Note that records we are required to retain under professional or tax rules cannot be deleted on request.
Texas residents: the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act gives you rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of personal data, and to appeal a refusal. Use the same email address above.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
